My First Fishing Trip!

lee1When I was very young, perhaps 5 or so, my parents rented a small cabin on Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks. Each summer, my parents would pack up their small family, load us in their 1955 Dodge and cart us off from East Haven, Connecticut to the shores of the lake. Located on the easterly side of the lake, we would enjoy swimming, shuffle board, water skiing and boating. (Even on a rainy day we could go play ping pong in the club house.) Mrs. Blanchard – Teacher Extraordinaire

lee1I often think about those folks that molded my childhood and ultimately my life. One of those people was my first grade teacher, Mrs. Blanchard. By the time I entered first grade in East Haven Connecticut, I was hooked on alphabets, words and stories. My mom, a teacher got me started with books, trips to the library and more. Add in my grandmother’s love of novels, fairy tales and children’s books and I was hooked. Continue reading Mrs. Blanchard – Teacher Extraordinaire

A Memorial Day Memory

leejohndrowteamToday was Memorial Day. The remembrance of those killed in action serving our country.

I took my grand kids to the parade in Keene. As the flags went by Jacob (My young grandson) stood there with his hand over his heart. My dad, my grandfather would have been proud. He never had to be asked. We sat there and clapped for those who had served. Our country. Our history. Friends showed up and watched with us. Continue reading A Memorial Day Memory

First Camping Trip In New York

leejohndrowteamFor years we had stayed on Schroon Lake in New York. Each summer we stayed in a lodge overlooking the lake. Each year the boathouse was brought out on rails. And summer began. I would go out and put the buoy on the mooring. We would fuel up the boat. Water skiing, swimming and fishing. (Well, a lot of food as well.)But one summer my mom thought “let’s go camping”. My First Car, A 1936 Chevrolet Master Deluxe

leejohndrowteamMy first car was a 1936 Chevrolet Master Deluxe. I grew up in a different day and a different time. My folks had a rule with us as children. “If you can buy it, you can have it.” I mowed lawns, sold seeds, raked, gardened and fed chickens and ducks for cash. And when I was about 13 years old, I wanted a car. (Well, I wanted everything long before that! I wanted or had mopeds, go karts, new bikes and more. So a car was just on the list.)
