Pro Wrestling Memories

brian leemanEveryone has a definition of what a Geek, Well here is my definition.

A Geek is a person who is so passionate about a certain thing, a certain place, a certain person, etc.. They are so passionate that whatever they are passionate about, becomes a huge part of their life.
Well what I Geek out about is Professional Wrestling Brotha !!!

I know you what you are going to say, “Brian,, you know Wrestling is fake right?”

My answer; yes and no. To certain extent wrestling is fake.

  • Yes, the matches are planned out, no secret there.
  • Yes, when the do high flying moves they do catch each other, but they still hurt.
  • Yes, the Wrestling commentator’s are told what to say.
  • Some of the moves don’t hurt that is true (ex. punches are open fist), but there are moves that do hurt ( ex. Lariat’s, clothesline’s,  Chops , and many more).

I started watching wrestling at 6 and I fell in love with Wrestling.

Now I was not allowed to watch… but always found a way to watch.

My first memory of wrestling is see Hulk Hogan turning heel ( becoming a bad guy) and forming the New World Order. I remember thinking this was so cool because people were throwing garbage in the ring and Hogan did not care.

As I got older really I fell in love with Japanese Wrestling.

Japaneses Wrestling is more stiff and hard hitting and has none of the soap opera story lines the American wrestling has.  The Kenta Kobashi vs. Yuji Nagata  match from Pro-Wrestling Noah, amazed me and got me hooked on Japanese Wrestling.

I highly recommend Kenta Kobashi matches as well as anything from Pro Wrestling Noah, New Japan wrestling or the Dragon Gate.

Right now I mainly watch WWE and NJPW, an U.S. and international independent wrestling .

Wrestling has helped stay sober. It lets me escape reality and the stuff I go through.

I leave with this quote from the late great Eddie Guerrero, “To me, wrestling is therapy. No matter how bad my personal situation is, when I step into the ring, all my troubles disappear. My baggage stays in the back where it belongs.”
