Tina’s Vacation Story

It was with great anticipation as the van was packed and loaded with stuff and people. Great fun was had as the kids in our vehicle played Auto Bingo and joked about being stuffed in like sardines. Jacob told ALL of us he didn’t like sardines. We arrived to a sign that indicated Jesus was celebrated by the owners of the cottage and so we unpacked and ate dinner and checked out the place. It was decided Jordan, Mariah and Jacob would all sleep in the loft. The next morning at 4:30 – they were awake. Couldn’t wait to see what the day unfolded. I got up and drank some coffee and made breakfast. Bacon, eggs and bagels or toast.

Lots of plans were talked about – but the whole vacation was one of anticipation and excitement. The “party boat” was a much enjoyed event. Complete with stories from Lee about the times he spent on the lake while growing up. I think everyone got to drive the boat.

Saturday night was the official birthday bash for Lee. The weather wasn’t great but that didn’t dampen the festivities! Yes it was chaotic but all of the family in one place at the same time. And, we got a picture to prove it – even though the selfie stick wasn’t charged! Who knew you had to charge something like that!

On Sunday before Amy and her crew left – Lee took Amy out in the canoe. It was raining but they had ponchos. The only problem was the ponchos were for small children – they didn’t care! They put them on and went anyway!

The Adirondack Museum was a great time. Watching four of my grandchildren discover history was awesome. To see that they understood the value of the past was encouraging.

On Monday night, after the museum – we had s’mores. I hadn’t had one before but it is kind of a tradition with camping. They were ok. It was more fun watching Hannah stuff it in her mouth and want more!

One of the events that sticks in my mind of the whole vacation was Lee taking Mariah and Jacob out in the canoe. I think he took almost everyone out – but this time was different. As they paddled about and where near shore – suddenly the canoe flipped over! Mariah jumped right up and after a minute so did Jacob. All three were soaked. But the flipping was intentional. They all three laughed as they got one over on us.

Watching the grandchildren learn the value of fishing to eat and not fishing for sport was a nice way to see our values being passed on.

The laughs while the kids and Lee watching two Herbie movies was special. I know we will all grow and change – but next year perhaps we can do another trip.

When I would ask Jacob what the best part of the day was at the end of the day – his first item was always family!
