Why Write About Vacation?

lee1I just returned from an amazing vacation. I was in a region of New York, that I spent many a summer in. Suffice to say the time away was necessary and unforgettable. But what made it more satisfying was I was able to share it with my family. My five children and their children.

What was amazing was I was able to share things with them that are historical. Legacy in the making. Things they will remember.

  • Going away from technology and people
  • Camping or glamping as my daughter would say
  • Where I spent summers on the lake
  • Where my dad’s ashes are scattered
  • Where I went fishing
  • Where we met a bear
  • Being on the water
  • Watching eagles, loons and ospreys.
  • The grandchildren’s first fish catch
  • The Adirondack Museum
  • What family means.

Oh, I am sure there is more, but what really counts is that they participated. They were part of the first Johndrow getaway. It has already triggered new conversations and thinking.

Where my folks brought us when we were kids is where I bought them. Long Lake, garnet mines and more.

What is the history you are putting down on paper for your family to know you and your youth?

I hope you will take me serious when I say your legacy may well be more than what your children see or hear, but what they remember.

So, consider writing about your grandmother or grandfather. Maybe that kooky aunt or uncle. (One of my aunts had a Christmas shop!)

So, let me encourage you to love.take up writing some short stories and share your history, your hope and your love for family and friends!
