Summer Vacation In Maine

brian leemanI always looked forward  to summer vacation’s as a kid because it meant three things :

1.  No school !
2.   The ice truck would around the neighborhood for the summer.
3.  My Family and I would to Funtown/Splashtown and Old Orchard beach/ Palace Playland .

We didn’t have a lot of money growing up but at the hospital my Dad  worked at as a janitor, he got discounts for  Funtown/Splashtown  and Palace Playland ( which is an amusement park near Old Orchard Beach).  I am thankful towards the hospital  that my Dad worked for because without these discounts that they provided for their employees, we would not have been able to go to Funtown/Splashtown and Palace PlayLand.

My Dad only got two weeks of vacation , so the Friday of his first week of his vacation  we  would go to Funtown/SplashTown  . Then the second week we would go to Old Orchard Beach and Palace PlayLand.

I will first talk about my experiences at Funtown/Splashtown.  Funtown/Splashtown is a  amusement park and water park in Saco , Maine .  One part of the park has all the rides you would expect from a Amusement park ( Funtown being that part of the park ) and a water park with pools and the coolest water slides in Maine.  We would get there at noon and we left at five in the afternoon. Those were some of best five hours in my life .

My brother and I didn’t always get along but when we are at Funtown/Splashtown, we were the best of friends . The ride my brother and I would ride together was the Log Flume. We would challenge each other when the Log would get to the top to raise our hands in the air when the  log would go down full force.  Both us would always keep our hands up . One my favorite rides was the bumper cars , because my Dad and I would always  crash into each other. Hearing my Dad laugh as we would crash into each other, made me feel alive and loved.

The one ride that my mom would go on with me is a ride that I don’t remember the name of, but it was a ride that was in this big tent. It  would spin you around while music was playing and weird but cool images would be projected on the ceiling  . My mom and I would have a blast , I felt like we were suspended in time and My mom was all mine .

Splash town was always a blast, that part of park was always full of happy families. My favorite slide was the black one because it was literally pitch black as you went down and it was really fast. I loved riding a two person tube with my brother where we would scream like little girls going down, lol . When were done at FunTown/Splashtown , we would eat out at Pizza Hut .

Now on to Old Orchard Beach and Palace Playland, my favorite beach in Maine and the coolest boardwalk amusement park  in Maine . We would arrive at Old Orchard Beach at noon and spend a couple hours at the beach. When I would step onto the sand of Old Orchard Beach, it felt like heaven. The smell of the salty ocean, the warm wind and the cool water of the ocean defined summer for me.

My Dad , my Mom, my Brother and I loved to jump into the waves. For some reason jumping those waves felt like being reborn .

After we were done at the beach , we go down to the boardwalk and get pizza and fires from Bill’s Pizza . Then it was off to Palace Playland for some fun.    Palace Playland is a small boardwalk amusement park by the beach. My favorite ride was the Terminator. It is a ride that’s a pendulum that goes all the up and all the way down . The wasn’t a lot of rides but I was ok with that . When were done with the rides , we go get fried dough for supper .

Man , those summer vacations were the best times of my life!
